10 Years of Money Wisdom in Under 5 Mins

Ever met someone who just seems to have this money thing figured out?

It’s not about the big bucks or their indulgences but the habits that made them what they are.

Inspired by Shaan Puri’s enlightening video “10 Years of Money Wisdom in Under 28 Minutes” (link below), here are three money shifts to consider:

Money shift #1: Find What Feels Like Play to You but Looks Like Work to Others

Your unique edge in the financial world might be something you love. It’s about leveraging what feels natural to you.

Shaan talks about his friend, who’s all about reading research papers. For most, it’s a yawn-fest, but for his friend? Pure joy. And guess what? That’s his edge in the financial game.

Another example is Marie Kondo – she’s had great financial success with her love for folding clothes a certain way and organising spaces!

“When it feels like play, you’ll do it a lot, not just nine to five. You’ll do it from five to nine, too. You’ll just do it all the time. Any available moment you have, your brain will go in that direction because it’s something you enjoy doing so much. And because you enjoy doing it, you’ll keep doing it. You can do it for a long period of time, even if you’re not getting immediate results.

There are many things that we will do if we get immediate results. It’s the things you’re willing to do even without immediate results that lead to these big wins in the end.

And you know what they call the guy who practices all the time and never gives up? Somebody who does it all the time and can do it for a long period of time – the best. That’s what they call the guy. They call him the best. And the best always gets paid in any field.”

Money shift #2: Go from being far away from money to hanging out with money

Surround yourself with individuals who either possess what you desire or are as dedicated as you are in pursuing it. Proximity to these individuals can lead to opportunities and growth.

The following are three ways that Shaan recommends for aligning with wealthy minds.

1/ Surround Yourself with Like-minded Peers

Find individuals who share your dream. Move to be near them (or find them online and get on regular chats/calls with them).

Do you know five people who have the same dream as you and are taking it as seriously or more seriously than you?

Engage in group chats, weekly dinners, or even co-living arrangements.

Do whatever it takes.

“If you want to be a tech entrepreneur, you should probably be in San Francisco. If you want to be in the entertainment business, you should probably be in LA.”

2/ Seek Out Mentors

Instead of asking for mentorship, ask specific questions.

ASK, “I need to decide between A and B. How would you approach this?”

Then, ACT on their advice

Then, FOLLOW UP and provide feedback on how it went.

“By seeking specific advice, acting on it, and updating them, you naturally build a mentor-mentee relationship without formally requesting it.”

3/ Refine Your Information Diet

Consume content that aligns with your goals.

Ask successful individuals about their preferred content sources – be it podcasts, books, or YouTube channels.

Direct interactions aren’t always necessary for impactful learning.

“Some of my most influential teachers are individuals I’ve never met in person but have learned from through digital platforms.”

Money shift #3: Intensity is the Strategy

“Intensity is the strategy. Winners don’t usually have a better strategy. They do the obvious things with more intensity than you do.”

Shaan Puri

Shaan emphasises the unparalleled power of intensity in achieving success.

He argues that while many seek a magical strategy or formula, the sheer force and fervour with which one approaches a task often determines the outcome.

He shared the story of Taylor Offer, who identified an opportunity and moved across the country and into the same building as top Vine and YouTube influencers. His goal was to befriend them and collaborate with them. This bold move eventually led to a millions of dollars in merch sales.

This idea of intensity reminds me of one of my fave quote:

“I fear not the man who has practised 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practised one kick 10,000 times.“

Bruce Lee

Now it’s YOUR turn:

Reflect on your financial journey so far:

What’s something fun that you enjoy doing that others would consider work?

Who are your mentors who have achieved the level of wealth and impact that you’re shooting for?

Are you ready to intensify your approach?

How to Overcome the Fear of doing video content

Looking to conquer your fear of creating video content?

Me too!

As you’re no doubt aware, video content is a powerful tool for businesses and individuals to connect and engage with their audience.

However, the fear of being on camera can be daunting for many. I know, I’ve avoided doing video for over a year!

Now I’m changing that. I don’t want to hide anymore.

So I’m starting by sharing one tip that I’ve learned about overcoming the fear of sucking on video.

Are you making video content – why or why not?

1/ Read (& watch): Why the Worst Search Marketers Start Content Strategy with “SEO Keywords” — 5-Minute Whiteboard

I’m worried. Worried that thousands of agencies, in-house practitioners, and even marketing leaders who should know better are STILL prioritizing their content efforts based primarily or entirely on keywords for search.

How can a crazy physical challenge help your business? Taki Moore explains this in this short video.

3/ Watch: What Maldives Luxury Resorts Don’t Want You to Know

This video inspired me to go to the Maldives one day with my wife.

I had taken it off my travel list because I’d heard about the “expensive” reputation from friends and other youtube videos that are promoting the luxury resorts.

Fascinating to hear about what’s actually going on and that you don’t have to pay $500 per night to enjoy the islands (unless you really want to).

How long it really takes to get to 7-figures+

On one of my morning beach walks, I listened to this podcast episode from money mindset mentor Denise Duffield-Thomas.
